One of the UK’s leading marquee and temporary structure crew and event staffing companies, Pitman’s People, have been working in-house to create the innovative Pitman’s Passport, a health and safety training module for crew.
Designed in a playful and engaging style, the Pitman’s Passport describes all of the kinds of obstacles that crew staff can be faced with and how they can be avoided to prevent accidents happening. Like any training programme, it includes a list of topics and it measures the staff members’ understanding in a test environment. Each new crew member will receive a copy at their induction as a part of their health and safety training.
The passport was created by Porsche Smith, Crew HR at Pitman’s People. She said, “The only real accredited similar document is a CSCS card and we use this as standard. We wanted to create a useful tool that was specifically tailored to our staff working on temporary structures and marquees.”
The passport will make sure the Pitman’s People crew are fully trained and completely covered on all site health and safety, and will in fact be unique to them as a company, but recognised through the industry.
Managing Director, Oliver Pitman said, “Pitman’s Passport is exclusive to Pitman’s People but I would like it to become a standard across the temporary structures industry. We are in discussions with Peninsula, the leading provider of employment law and health & safety services in the UK, aiming to get the Pitman’s Passport recognised and accredited. We would like to expand the Passport into an eight-page certification, which will represent from the individuals point of view, a pay grade and a title, but for clients, represent a level of understanding and competence.”
