Southport Conferences, the convention bureau for the North West classic coastal resort has confirmed new business wins of almost £3 million, generated following its appearance at this year’s International Confex which took place in March.
The events include the Cartophilic Society of GB’s annual convention which will take place in 2014 for 230 delegates, the Methodist Church of GB & NI conference, attracting 1,500 delegates and the Royal British Legion conference with 500 delegates, both taking place in 2015.
All events will be making a welcome return to the resort and will take place in the Southport Theatre & Convention Centre, with accommodation and hospitality being provided in the resort’s surrounding hotels and restaurants.
Steve Christian, Tourism Marketing & Visitor Services Manager, Southport Conferences commented; “These wins are testament to the combined efforts of both the business tourism team at Southport Conferences and the team at the STCC and will generate a welcome economic boost to the Southport economy.”
2013 is set to be a year of change and development for Southport, with a brand new website for Southport Conferences and the completion of a host of multi million pound regeneration projects.
This includes the eagerly anticipated Atkinson development – Southport’s new Cultural Centre which has recently opened offering meetings and events facilities for up to 600 people whilst Travelodge will complete a £4m transformation in October of the previously derelict Ribble Buildings in Lord Street to a 101 bed hotel, meetings and events facilities.
