Thomson is the latest major brand to be announced as partner for Scotland’s new home of live entertainment, The SSE Hydro, opening in September this year. The brand represents the latest in a series of partnerships between the new venue and major brands in the run up to the much anticipated launch.
Peter Duthie, Commercial Director, SSE commented; “The announcement of Thomson as a travel partner further reflects the level of interest that The SSE Hydro is attracting and compliments our other brand partnerships with Coca-Cola, Sony, Heineken, Scotrail, Kettle Chips and Clydesdale Bank. At present we are also talking to other business sectors such as communication and cars.
Kathryn Ward, Director of Retail & Financial Services, Thomson added; “We are really looking forward to sponsoring the SSE Hydro and think it will be a mutually beneficial partnership for both Thomson and the Hydro. By joining forces with one of the most modern venues in the UK, it perfectly complements our modernisation strategy of providing expertly designed holiday experiences all centred on an ethos of giving customers quality time through their holidays. Aligning with the SSE Hydro is a key step in helping us to communicate this.
“We also fly from three Scottish airports, including operating the Thomson 787 Dreamliner from Glasgow and are confident that this alliance will support all our activity in Scotland”.
Duthie continued; “We are delighted to welcome yet another strong consumer brand to The SSE Hydro family. Building on the achievement of attracting Scottish Hydro as the naming rights partner for The Hydro, we have already achieved over £2.5m in annual sponsorship income.”
“We’re confident that, aside from The O2 in London, The SSE Hydro will be the most commercially successful venue in the UK.”
Part of the success of this achievement has been the strategic relationship the SECC has with AEG Facilities who have helped to deliver partnerships with some of the world’s best known brands for the new arena.
“The economic climate may be difficult at this time but the ability to provide direct access to highly targeted audiences is of even greater relevance and a major factor in our emerging success in this area,” concluded Duthie.
John Sharkey, Chief Executive, SECC earlier added; “The SSE Hydro has already generated exceptional results for commercial partnership activation which is now contracted at nine times original business plan projections – this, in addition to forward bookings indicates that the longer term mature business content is likely to outperform original projections.”
