The 2014 edition of the Guinness World Records has been released today and media and events company, Media 10 Limited has gained a place in the book for the very first time. The publication was first printed in 1955 and now sells over 2.7 million copies a year. The Essex based company was awarded its world record in 2012 at its Destination Star Trek London convention, for ‘The largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters.’ Out of 18,000 visitors 1,063 took part in the world record attempt.
Suzy Pallett, Event Director “We are used to winning awards within our large events portfolio at Media 10, but this has been the first world record we’ve ever broken. It’s been amazing to work on the Destination Star Trek brand, working with so many passionate enthusiasts and to have pulled off a world record attempt is a true first in our history of achievements. We continue to work with the Star Trek brand and are exploring further projects, on a national and international level, so who knows, maybe one day we’ll beat our own record.”
Destination Star Trek London welcomed fans from all over the world last year and enabled all visitors to witness some never- been-seen-before props and artefacts from the TV series and films. Bringing together cast members, crew, producers and fans spanning the show’s illustrious 45+ year history this event was a Mecca for all things relating to Star Trek. The convention combined talks, museum displays, photograph and autograph opportunities with parties and last year saw the world record broken 1,063 visitors turning up in full Trekkie costume!
