September 25th saw the launch of BL_NK, Hackney’s newest event and community space, created through the Hackney Council Regeneration Scheme and funded by the private sector, delivered by creative digital pioneers onedotzero and Aztec Event Services.
Digital experience specialists onedotzero took control of the 3,200 sq.ft. of mixed purpose urban-space for the launch party, creating a night of digital art and music extravaganza. Onedotzero will go on to curate the periodic digital art exhibitions at the facility.
Aztec was recruited by onedotzero to help deliver some digital and audio visual magic for a launch event that featured digital artists in performance plus a selection of DJ’s and VJ’s creating a party atmosphere. Designing a dazzling and creative display of digital wizardry is Aztec’s stock in trade; its technicians spent the day setting up lighting rigs, PAs, HD projection and supplying some essential kit to the digital artists performing on the night. Coming at the end of the London Festival of design, the launch of BL_NK is Aztec’s most recent contribution to the festival, after providing AV for both the 100% Design show and Design Junction.
BL_NK is scheduled to run for a year, and will serve as nexus for showcasing local projects and provide an investment focus for Hackney and East London businesses and initiatives. Supported by partners like onedotzero and the Victoria & Albert Museum, BL_NK will support local creative and tech companies with their plans for growth and will be a place to do business, to nurture ideas and culture and to entertain and enlighten. BL_NK will also operate as a periodic digital art gallery, curated by onedotzero.
