UniSpace Sunderland, the conference and events arm of the University of Sunderland, today announces that it will host a two day annual conference for the Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) this weekend at National Glass Centre.
Over 100 delegates are expected to attend the conference which brings together leading glass-makers and artists to discuss developments in the industry. The event will include seminars on architectural glass, presenting of work in the on-site galleries and demonstrations of printing on glass, flameworking, hot glass and water jet cutting in the glass studios.
Victoria Scholes, Chair of CGS, commented: “Times may be hard, and there’s no doubt that traditional skills-based industries are in decline. But at the same time, creativity is a resource in which we are rich, and creative skills increasingly valued. We believe our contemporary glass-making skills are a cultural asset to be nourished and where better to explore what they mean to us than at National Glass Centre, with its strong connections to glass – past and present.”
Sharon Olver, Business Development and Commercial Manager at UniSpace Sunderland, added: “National Glass Centre is the UK’s centre for national excellence in glass and a unique events space, making it the perfect location for the Contemporary Glass Society conference. I’m looking forward to welcoming delegates and seeing some truly unique pieces of work on display in the galleries.”
