After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, the Japan Hobby Show had returned to Tokyo Big Sight for its 46th edition from 27 to 29 April 2022.
Alongside “Handmade MAKERS’ with minne by GMO Pepabo” and “The 15th Hobby Cooking Fair 2022”, the exhibition run for three days.
This year’s theme was “I♡Handmade!” Materials and kits related to handmade goods such as fabrics and beads, apparel, sweets and gourmet foods were gathered in one place.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony, Reiko Ehara, the president of the association, said, “I am happy to finally welcome back the event after three years. Together with companies and individual creators, we would like to make the world of handmade more exciting and appealing than ever!”
The newly established Sustainable Zone introduced products with environmental and upcycling themes, such as recyclable metal origami paper and obidome (obi ornaments made from fabric scraps).
In addition, each booth offered a variety of handmade workshops where visitors could make various accessories from leather and fabric.
Besides other crafts, food from all over Japan such as rice, beer or miso was displayed and made available for sale.
