Following their rebrand from Melville GES, exhibition contractor GES is planning to develop several aspects of their business in line with the demands placed on them in a changing market.
Event Industry News spoke to Daniel Corderoy, Head of Account Management for GES UK, at their office in ExCeL. The company has recently signed a 10-year agreement with the East London exhibition venue to be their preferred supplier.
One of the major developments in recent years has been the increase in global medical congresses held at ExCeL, giving sufficient justification for GES to create a specific congress team based at the venue, as Daniel explains.
“The demands of the clients at these congresses is extremely high, so we asked ExCeL if it would be useful for them to have a dedicated congress manager to help coordinate customer requirements for these events. They liked the idea and so we put it together.”
GES has also brought in a dedicated CAD operator for their ExCeL team to help support the venue in delivering solutions for events that are considering using the venue.
“There are nine congresses lined up for this year, so the frequency certainly warrants the infrastructure that we’ve put in place,” said Daniel.
Having helped to coordinate the Olympic test events at ExCeL prior to the games, then helping with the full delivery during London 2012, Daniel believes that GES has proved they are more than just a one-trick pony and can work just as well outside of the exhibition sector.
“We built the whole of the media centre at the Olympics in terms of the internal fittings. In the UK, there are only a handful of exhibition organisers who are really growing their shows in the UK, so I see the congresses and live events as something we can really focus on in terms of our own growth. We look ahead to the Commonwealth Games as a big opportunity, and when you consider these congresses are global entities, rebranding from Melville to GES gives us the scope to service these events as one globally recognised brand.”
Daniel points out that one of the frustrations he has with some clients is that they don’t receive the exhibitor lists, something that will be combatted by the new technology that GES will deploy to allow exhibitors to update their own stand info. The floorplan has become the hub of information for any event.
“Through our wealth of experience we have designed and built our new CAD system from the ground up. Our new online interactive floorplan system, FloorPlan Manager, enables users to update their floorplan in real time and ensure up to date plans and exhibitor lists are available at the click of a button 24/7.”
“This is a real technological leap forward for us & our clients and demonstrates GES’s focus on creating innovative products,” concluded Corderoy.
